The United States Marine Corps War Memorial represents this nation’s gratitude to Marines and those who have fought beside them. While the statue depicts one of the most famous incidents of World War II, the memorial is dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives in defense of the United States since 1775! #ruchyum #ruchyumtravel #washingtondc #arlington #virginia #usmarinecorps #memorial #architecture #architectureporn #historic #travelling #traveltheworld #traveller #travelgram #traveldeeper #travelawesome #travelphotography #wanderlust #weekend #roadtrip #dcigers #instagrammers #goopgo #usmarine

Travelgram from The National Cherry Blossom Festival

The east coast looks magical and at its best during the spring time! Perhaps it is because after a harsh, bitter cold and gloomy winter, we all welcome the warmth and the sunny days spring brings. One of my favorite spring time blooms are the Cherry Blossoms. So to capture the cherry blossoms at their best, we headed to the The National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC this year!

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a spring celebration in Washington, DC commemorating the March 27, 1912, gift of Japanese cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to the city of Washington, in an effort to enhance the growing friendship between the United States and Japan.

During the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the most popular place to visit the cherry blossom trees is at the Tidal Basin, which provides great photo ops near the Jefferson Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.

The view around the Tidal Basin during the peak bloom period, which is 70% bloom,is spectacular, attracting a lot of photographers, tourists and bloom watchers, usually in millions.  This year the peak bloom period was the weekend of March 26-March 28.

Traffic on Constitution, Independence and Ohio Drive was almost as heavy as the pedestrian traffic on the trail around the Tidal Basin. The city was bustling this past weekend and the blossom scenes were beautiful with both clouds and sun.

Over 100 varieties of Tulips and annuals located just off the Tidal Basin, east of the Kutz Bridge and south of Independence Ave. before the turn to Maine Ave, adding some bright colors to the white and pinks of the Cherry blossoms. We caught sight of some beautiful yellow Forsythia bushes right across the Tidal Basin along with some full blooms of Magnolia trees!

Overall it was a day well spent amongst the pinks and white clouds of magnificence!

An architectural note from DC ūüôā There are eleven different basic architectural station designs in the Metro system. By far the most common station type is the “waffle” style vault envisioned by the CFA and Harry Weese. These vaults are characterized by the smaller rectangular coffers that line the walls, making them look somewhat like a waffle wrapped around the train room. Most of these stations were constructed using the pour-in-place method, though Dupont Circle was constructed using precast panels.
