Eggless Black Forest Cake

So how do you make a black forest cake? Simple. Take a soft and spongy eggless chocolate cake, lather it with whipped cream and top it with cherries and some chocolate shavings ~ ta da ..your heavenly black forest cake is ready! 🙂


Eggless Black Forest Cake

For Cake

  • 1 cup plain Flour
  • 2 tablespoon Cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 3/4 cup Condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Baking powder 
  • 4 tablespoons melted Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Essence

Whipped Cream

  • 1 pint Heavy Whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract


  • 1 can Cherries
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 6 tablespoons Water
  • 1 cup grated Chocolate


For Cake:

  1. Sieve the plain flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and soda together. Keep aside.
  2. Combine the condensed milk, melted butter, vanilla essence and 5 tablespoons of water in a bowl and beat well using a whisk.
  3. Add the sieve flour mixture and mix well.
  4. The batter should be of dropping consistency.
  5. Pour half of the batter in a greased and dusted cake pan.
  6. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 360 F for 20-25 mins or till done.
  7. Invert the tin over a rack and tap sharply to un-mould the cake.
  8. Keep aside to cool.
  9. Repeat steps 5-8 for the other half.

For Whipped Cream:

  1. Pour heavy cream into a large metal bowl and beat with an electric mixer on low for 5 mins.
  2. Gradually increase the speed to medium, beating for 5-7 mins or till soft peaks form.
  3. Add sugar and vanilla and beat till firm peaks form.
  4. Do not over beat, else the cream will appear clumpy and too thick.


  1. Dissolve sugar into water.
  2. Take the first half of the cake and wet it with sugar syrup. Repeat for the second half as well.
  3. On the bottom layer, add a layer of whipped cream and top it with cherries.
  4. Put the second layer on top and cover the entire cake with cream.
  5. Garnish with cherries and chocolate shavings.

TIP: Freeze the container that you will be using for whipping the cream, this helps in whipping the cream quickly!

Inspired: Black forest cake is my hubby’s and my favorite cake! So after a couple of trials and errors, I managed to create a recipe that satisfies our taste palate 😉
